Evening Primrose

Evening primrose Oenothera biennis.

Common name: Tree primrose, sun drop.

Occurrence: native to North America but has been naturalized to British and European gardens.

Parts used: the bark and leaves.

Medicinal uses:

astringent, sedative. The drug from this herb is not extensively used but has been of benefit in treating gastro-intestinal disorders, dyspepsia, liver torpor and in female problems in association with pelvic illness. It has also been successfully used in whooping cough and spasmodic asthma.

Administered as: liquid extract.
